Lib Dem MP for Bristol West, Stephen Williams, has opened the new Bristol headquarters of international charity Feed the Children.

The charity supports orphaned and abandoned children in disaster areas across the globe, as well as providing breakfast clubs at schools in Bristol. Their new offices are located at 90 Stokes Croft and also have warehouse space to collect donated goods to ship to disaster zones.

Stephen Williams said "I am honoured to have been asked to open these new facilities that will help Feed the Children be even more effective in their battle against poverty both in the developing world and closer to home. They are unusual in both raising money and taking donations in kind from people who can spare a blanket or cooking pot which might save a life in Africa or India."

He also drew attention to their work in some of Bristol's schools saying "It is gradually becoming more accepted that behaviour at school is very closely linked to diet. When Feed the Children helps to ensure that pupils in inner-city schools get a good breakfast, they are giving them a passport to better grades and higher achievement, by helping them to concentrate in class and not get restless."
