Lib Dem MP for Bristol West, Stephen Williams, has been named as the most environmentally friendly MP in the Bristol area after it was revealed that he was the only MP to travel from Bristol to Westminster solely by public transport.

The figures, which were revealed as a result of a freedom of information request by Lib Dem MP for Lewes, Norman Baker, showed that the only travel expenses Stephen Williams had claimed for were for train tickets. This resulted in him making the smallest claim of any MP in the area.

Stephen Williams said "I am perhaps lucky that I represent a compact city constituency, but having said that I believe you can tell a lot about someone's commitment to tackling global warming by their own travel habits. I would certainly consider it impossible to justify commuting to London every week either by air or by road. When I'm travelling by train I'm not only doing my bit for the environment but I also get a lot of work done!"
