Stephen Williams MP walked to Wales today (Sunday) in support of the charity Parent Project UK (PPUK), which is seeking a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

DMD is an illness which causes children's muscles to waste away, causing young men to die in their late teens, or become wheelchair bound and unable to move unaided.

The sponsored walk started at 10am at the M48 Aust motorway service station, South Gloucestershire. Stephen Williams MP, DMD sufferer Matthew Barrett, his parents and other walkers crossed the old Severn Bridge, walking approximately three miles to Chepstow before returning to their starting point.

Stephen Williams commented:

"I was inspired to take part in this walk because of Matthew Barrett, an 11-year old boy from Nailsea who suffers from the disease and who visited Parliament earlier in the year. DMD is a heart-breaking illness, and puts enormous pressure on families who have children with this condition. By taking part in this walk, I hope the money raised will allow PPUK to find a cure."
