He has a degree in history from Bristol University and has lived and worked in the city since graduating. He has mainly worked for international business advisory firms including PriceWaterhouseCooper (PWC) and Grant Thornton. He was a member of the local council for six years and led the Lib Dem group. His policy interests include taxation, education, preventative health care, transport, civil rights, arts and Europe.
