Stephen Williams' views on Canadian commercial seal huntingI believe that this is an unacceptably cruel practice, especially when one considers that in 2001 it was reported that 42% of the seals killed in a hunt were likely to have been conscious when skinned. With the current levels of killing it is likely that the harp seal population will be unsustainable. To send an economic and moral signal to the Canadian government I believe that the import of all seal products into the UK ought to be prohibited. I have signed an Early Day Motion (EDM 237) which calls on the government to follow precedents set by the US and implement such a prohibition.
